The management of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) within the Eastern Region has insisted that the voters’ register is just not credible for the December 7 elections.
The social gathering claims that the discrepancies in eight constituencies may have an effect on the end result of the polls. They made this identified when a petition was submitted to the Electoral Commission after the protest in Koforidua.
Hundreds of NDC social gathering trustworthy crammed the streets of the Central Business District to precise their displeasure on the Electoral Commission.
The giant crowd, holding placards, echoed their unified demand for motion. Every motion was accompanied by chants.
“We are expecting that Jean Mensa and the Electoral Commission will do the needful, and that is what we have presented to them. We are for justice and peace, ” Ransford Owusu Boakye, NDC Vice Chairman mentioned.
Kojo Darko is member of the NDC Election Directorate. He mentioned, “Across the Eastern Region, we found huge discrepancies in almost every constituency, clearly the world must know. There is no way the Electoral Commission would provide a final register that does not contain discrepancies.”
The National Youth Organiser, George Opare Addo, who led the Eastern Regional Executives to current the petition to the EC Regional Director, John Appiah Bafffoe, emphasised that peace can solely be achieved if justice is served.
“There is a prerequisite for peace, which is justice. The hall mark of the Electoral Commission is credibility, you cannot have a credible election when the voter registration is flawed. We are calling on the EC as peace loving Ghanaians, we don’t want any mishap on the election day. That is why we have taken this initiative today
as responsible citizens of the country, ” he acknowledged.
Mr Baffoe assured that the petition could be submitted for motion.
Security on the Electoral Commission’s workplace was tight, as police personnel had a protracted day sustaining order through the protest and after.
