Augustine ArhinfulFormer Ghana striker Augustine Arhinful has voiced his disappointment with Black Stars coach Otto Addo’s substitutions throughout Ghanas 1-1 draw towards Niger within the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.Arhinful particularly questioned the choice to exchange Majeed Ashimeru with Elisha Owusu when the Black Stars had been main by a single objective. He believes that Owusus introduction had little impression on the sport and prompt that Addo might have delayed the defensive substitution till the closing minutes.”When Ashimeru was leaving the game, I told my brother I dont know why he [Addo] was bringing Owusu on at that point. Let’s ask ourselves, what did Owusu do when he came on? You can bring him on with two or three minutes left,” Arhinful stated in an interview with Peace FM.Ghana had initially taken the lead by means of Alidu Seidu, with an help from Mohammed Kudus, however Niger equalised later by means of defender Oumar Sako.Arhinful added, “We were dominating possession, but what was the final result? Were we just protecting a one-goal lead? The team sat too deep, and Im not sure what instructions were given to Owusu and Partey. They need to assess and improve.”Ghana now turns its focus to their subsequent qualifier towards Sudan in October, as they proceed to hunt their first win within the AFCON qualifiers.
