Five folks have been confirmed dead after a boat carrying mourners capsized on the Volta Lake Saturday morning.
The boat was conveying the mourners from Azizakpe to Azizakpe when it capsized on the lake. Five persons are reported to have died immediately whereas rescue efforts are underway to search out different survivors.
The incident which occurred round 9 am on Saturday was allegedly brought on by sturdy winds.
According to an eyewitness account, about 100 individuals have been crossing Azizakpe, an island neighborhood on a 40-seater passenger boat when the incident occurred.
The 5 dead individuals have been three youngsters beneath the age of three and two girls. All passengers have been with out life jackets.
In January, eight faculty youngsters from the Atikagome neighborhood within the Sene East District within the Bono East Region died when a boat which was transporting them to high school capsized on the Volta Lake on Tuesday, January 24, 2023.
Officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) confirmed the incident.
The deceased have been amongst 20 schoolchildren within the boat who have been travelling from Atikagome to Wayokope, the place their faculty is situated.
