Gilbert Burns wasn’t touched throughout his first spherical submission win on Saturday … and the UFC star already is aware of who and the place he needs subsequent — Colby Covington on “The Ultimate Fighter”!
TMZ Sports talked to the 35-year-old fighter after he choked out Neil Magny at UFC 283 about the place he goes from right here.
“If I could pick, because I couldn’t pick for a while, I want Colby. That’s a go-to title shot. If I beat Colby, especially right now. I would love to make a coach [on TUF] and compete against Colby,” Burns informed us.
FYI, 34-year-old Covington, who final fought at UFC 272 towards rival Jorge Masvidal (Colby gained by unanimous resolution), is ranked second within the division … behind longtime champ, Kamaru Usman.
Of course, “The Ultimate Fighter” was launched by Dana White and the UFC in 2005 … placing a gaggle of fighters in a home. Think a UFC and ‘Real World’ mash-up.
The first season featured coaches Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar. The males famously fought on the finish of the season … in one of many biggest matches within the promotion’s historical past.
Since the present’s inception, stars like Conor McGregor, Chuck Liddell, Tito Ortiz and plenty of others have appeared on the TV present.
Gilbert says Dana informed him they’d meet this week and go over choices for the longer term.
“I talked to Dana and Hunter right after the fight. They said they would have a meeting [Monday] or Tuesday and they will let me know. I already put a lot of options. That’s my number one pick.”
Burns talks about his relationship with Covington (imagine it or not, GB does not hate CC) … but when the battle does not occur, Gilbert says he is all the way down to rematch Khamzat Chimaev.
The males fought in a barn-burner of a contest final 12 months … and Gilbert pushed the beforehand untouched and untested (within the UFC, at the very least) undefeated fighter.
Burns misplaced by resolution … however is assured he can beat Chimaev.
“100 percent I’d fight him again,” Gilbert stated.
“If they ask me, ‘Hey do you want to fight?’ For sure. When? That’s the only question I want to say. When?”
