Jamaican sprinter Asafa Powell has formally retired following his fortieth birthday, the previous 100m world file holder introduced on social media.
Powell set a world file of 9.77sec in June 2005 earlier than reducing the mark to 9.74, a file that stood till his compatriot Usain Bolt smashed it in May 2008.
