The Vice President and flagbearer of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has proposed the adoption of cellular cash as a standard cost system in Africa so as to tackle commerce boundaries and different monetary challenges on the African continent.

To tackle these, Dr. Bawumia proposed the adoption of a cellular cash interoperability cost system for Africa which he stated can be seamless and enhance commerce amongst Africans.
“Trade payments and relationships are currently hampered by inadequate settlement systems which result in high costs, limited access, slow processing speeds and a lack of transparency.”
Dr. Bawumia further said “making cellular cash interoperable throughout borders (Africa) would enable our residents to commerce seamlessly”, however, he added, a strong political will is required to make it a reality.
“Without political will, it isn’t more likely to be achieved. It takes numerous effort to convey stakeholders collectively on a standard platform”, he stated.
Dr. Bawumia later wrote on his Facebook wall how cellular cash interoperability cost system might develop into a standard forex for commerce in Africa, referencing Ghana’s profitable implementation of this cost system as a case research for Africa.

I used to be the keynote speaker for the opening session of the Africa Prosperity Network Conference held in Accra in the present day. This session of the convention seeks to discover the partnerships and prospects of intra-Africa continental cellular cash interoperability.
The theme underscores Ghana’s main position in guaranteeing triangular cellular cash interoperability that ensures seamless monetary transactions throughout telcos, financial institution accounts, and e-zwich platforms.
Ghana’s profitable implementation of a complete cellular cash interoperability, which is exclusive on the continent, will develop into helpful as the remainder of Africa strives to pursue an analogous course.
For me, having continental cellular cash interoperability will in the end obtain, to a higher extent, the aims of a standard forex with out essentially having a standard forex in Africa. We ought to goal at pursuing this on an incremental foundation.
This doesn’t require pursuing the elusive macroeconomic convergence standards by the West African Monetary Zone nations for instance however quite the implementation of digital funds convergence standards. Just just a few nations like Ghana, Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire can begin and we are able to proceed incrementally.
