A Political Scientist of the Methodist University, Dr. Christopher Ampadu has urged the National Executive Committee of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to stick to the advice of the Electoral Commission (EC) to re-run the Yendi constituency primaries disrupted by some offended youth of the celebration through the counting of the ballots after shut of polls.
The EC which supervised the competition between Deputy MASLOC Chief Executive, Hajia Abibata Mahama Zakariah, and the incumbent MP, Farouk Mahama, held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, was characterised by commotion compelling the election officers to go away the venue.
The management in control of the conduct of the election nonetheless went forward to declare Farouk Mahama because the winner and ignored the EC officers.
The EC has interdicted 5 of the officers who carried out the polls which ended abruptly.
