Before acting on stage, Nii Osabu and his band members costume fully in white, symbolizing cleanliness. Adorned with sacred leaves round their necks, they thrust back evil spirits whereas inviting optimistic vitality. Once on stage, they carry out barefoot, establishing a direct connection to nature.
“My biggest motivation for performing on stage is to bring joy to people,” expresses Nii Osabu. Before each efficiency, they begin with prayers, calling to the Almighty and ancestors for a profitable present. Following this, they pour a libation, sometimes water or any alcoholic drink. With his band, Nii Osabu needs to advertise African tradition, notably Ga tradition. Their music attracts inspiration from African rhythms corresponding to Highlife, Adowa, Agbaja, Kpanlogo, and Sisaala.
When requested concerning the band’s future objectives, Nii Osabu emphasizes: “Our dream is to share our music with the world beyond Africa. We dream to tour Europe and Asia while inspiring youth to embrace African traditional music. This music represents us, and we aim to influence the younger generation to follow this path.”
Nii Osabu’s ardour for music extends to his occupation as a microbiologist. While the connection between music and microbiology may not be instantly seen, he explains: “There is a connection between music and microbiology, especially during the pandemic. I used my music for educating people.” Presently, music may be Nii Osabu’s part-time job, however as he affirms, music has all the time been his past love.
