A two-day nationwide capability constructing workshop for leaders of employee unions affiliated to the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL) has led to Accra, with a name on the Trades Union Congress (TUC) and public sector unions to take speedy steps to re-engage the federal government to assessment the wage changes for 2021 and 2022.

Background

The GFL is a nationwide commerce union in Ghana. The origin of the federation will be traced to the departure of a personnel from the TUC-affiliated Industrial and Business Employees’ Union (ICU) who then based the Textile, Garment and Leather-based Workers Union (TGLEU) in 1993.

The TGLEU subsequently tried to affiliate to the TUC, however was refused.

In 1996, modifications in labour legislation in Ghana allowed commerce union pluralism, and in 1998, the GFL was based.

The federation presently has 13 affiliate employee unions together with TGLEU, Basic Metallic and Manufacturing Employees Union (GEMM), Meals and Allied Employees Union (FAWU), Monetary and Enterprise Providers Employers Union (FBSEU) and Media and Printing Business Employees Union (MEDIANET).
