FORMER weightlifting nice and famed feminine powerlifting athlete, Juliana Arkoh, was on Saturday honoured for her contribution to sportsat the seventh Ladies in Sports activities Affiliation (WISA) Achievers Awards ceremony held on the Accra Sports activities Stadium.
Ms Arkoh gained 4 gold medals in squat, bench press, lifeless raise and general powerlifter on the Commonwealth Powerlifting Championship held in Newfoundland, Canada, in September 2019.
The occasion, which was sponsored by Ghandour Cosmetics, noticed 48 sports activities personalities and establishments honoured for excelling in varied sporting disciplines.
They included sports activities directors, journalists and athletes (energetic and retired). Twelve different individuals got particular meritorious awards for his or her excellence.
The powerlifter expressed appreciation to God, WISA, and devoted the prize to her late coach Madjetey Fetrie and the late president of the Ghana Powerlifting Federation (GPF) Mr. Godwill Agyemang.
President of WISA, Madam Gloria Commodore, thanked the sponsors – Ghandour Cosmetics, AFB Golden Merchandise, Nationwide Sports activities Authority, Ghana Olympic Committee and SWAG for his or her contribution to the occasion.
The awardees included the 2 feminine athletes who represented Ghana on the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Video games, the Mackorley sisters who’re members of the Golden Rackets and three feminine boxers.
President ofWomen Sports activities Affiliation of Ghana (WOSPAG), Mrs Joyce Mahama, urged girls to vie for greater positions throughout the business, including that “if all girls come onto the platform, they’ll have the voice to talk towards the abuse and surge ahead.”
Director of Sports activities (Improvement) Mrs Vivian Dougblor, who represented the Director Common of the Nationwide Sports activities Authority, Prof Peter Twumasi, prolonged her greetings and recommended the organisers in addition to the awardees.
