The Home of Representatives has referred to as on the Federal Authorities to as a matter of urgency curbed the menace of unlawful mining actions in Ijesha land in Osun.
This adopted the adoption of a movement by Rep. Lawrence Ayeni (APC-Osun) on the ground of the Home on Wednesday, in Abuja.
In his movement, he famous that the Nigerian minerals and mining Act was handed into legislation on March 16, 2007 to manage the exploration and exploitation of stable minerals in Nigeria.
He stated that the Act vested the management of all properties and minerals in Nigeria within the State and prohibited unauthorised exploration or exploitation of minerals.
He noticed that below the Land Use Act; all lands during which minerals had been present in business portions have been acquired by the Federal Authorities
He added that any property with mineral sources shall go from the Authorities to the individual by whom the mineral sources have been lawfully gained, upon their restoration.
He acknowledged that over the previous few years, sure people and unverified firms had launched into exploration actions throughout Ijeshaland, and their actions had precipitated untold hardship to the villagers.

He added that the villagers had been forcefully displaced and dispossessed of their lands by the miners, including that the excavation of the realm may expose the individuals to environmental hazards.
He stated that the individuals could possibly be unduly uncovered to disasters equivalent to; landslides, earthquakes, erosion, formation of sinkholes, lack of biodiversity and contamination of soil, amongst others.
He stated if needed measures weren’t put in place to examine unlawful mining, it may end result within the breakdown of legislation and order.
He stated that the unique inhabitants of Ijeshaland being disadvantaged of entry to their heritage may embark on self-help to recuperate their lands.
The Home, due to this fact, mandated its Committee on Strong Minerals Improvement to liaise with the Federal Ministry of Mines and Metal Improvement to establish the authorised and licensed miners inside Ijesha.
The Home mandated the committee to report again inside six weeks for additional legislative motion.
