The British empire conquered the highly effective Ashanti Kingdom in 1874 after a number of wars in what’s immediately Ghana. The palace of the then-Asantehene (that means Asante king), Otumfuo Nana Kofi Karikari and the personal properties of different royals have been ransacked.
“The aim of the battle was to free some British captives for gold and totally free commerce on the coastal areas as a result of the Asante individuals have been making issues tough for the British at the moment,” Osei-Bonsu Safo-Kantanka, a Ghanaian monarchical historian and instructor, tells The Africa Report.
A number of the objects stolen have been masks and busts created from pure gold, necklaces, bracelets of gold, coral ornaments, swords, caps mounted in strong gold, knives set in gold and silver, baggage of gold mud and nuggets, sandals and stools set in gold, carved stools mounted in silver, calabashes labored in silver and in gold, amongst many different priceless objects.
