Atik Mohammed has scolded President Nana Akufo-Addo over his dismissal of the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
The former PNC General Secretary questioned why the President didn’t cease the GRA boss, Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah from persevering with service and having fun with the advantages thereof, realizing very properly the latter had overstayed his retirement.
He famous that Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, up till this Wednesday, March 27, was at put up serving in his capability as Head of GRA for over 2 years regardless of reaching his retirement age of 60 years.
To Atik, the Commissioner-General dedicated an illegality which the President selected to condone.
He disclosed that although Ghana’s structure permits the President to award a contract to a retiree to increase his/her service, in Rev. Owusu-Amoah’s case, he wasn’t issued a contract; therefore his continuous keep in workplace constituted an illegality and questioned why President Akufo-Addo, a lawyer of fine standing, would “undermine the rule of law”.
“You should be influenced or guided by the law in whatever you do but the President sat unconcerned for 28 months and the man also remained in office while knowing that he is overstayed his retirement. Instead, he refuses to go home despite not given a contract. He remained in office, drawing salary, making commitments on behalf of GRA. This is unacceptable. And these are the cases that the CHRAJ and other allied agencies should be interested in.”
“On what basis did he continue to draw salaries and allowances and all the benefits that came with the office?”, he fumed.
Atik confused; “The President in particular cannot tell me he’s unaware the Commissioner-General remained at post without contract.”
GRA Boss’ Dismissal
On the rapid dismissal of Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, Atik requested “what happens to the 8 months of illegal stay in GRA? What happens to that?”
He additionally slammed the President for changing the GRA boss with Mrs. Julie Essiam saying this “woman who has been brought as replacement is equally guilty”.
“She is also 61 years old. For the whole 1 year she was in office, she was heading one of the divisions without contract…This ‘illegal’ has also been regularized to replace this man,” Atik exclaimed.
Atik Mohammed made these submissions on Thursday’s “Kokrokoo” present on Peace FM.
